Students will learn about the costs and benefits of saving, how to find rate of return, real rate of return, doubling time, and research an investment option.
Tuesday, February 25: Bell Ringer - What is interest?
Students reviewed simple and compound interest. They then learned the power of compound interest through the "Tale of 2 Savers." Time is important when investing and trying to reach long term goals. Students learned how to estimate the doubling time of an investment using the Rule of 72.
Wednesday, February 26: Bell Ringer - What is the "Rule of 72"?
Students completed a retirement savings worksheet and learned about Social Security.
Thursday, February 27: Bell Ringer - How much money could you potentially need to retire comfortably?
Students learned how to calculate net worth (the value of your assets minus the value of your liabilities) and how to calculate the return, rate of return, and real rate of return for an investment.
Friday, February 28: Bell Ringer - What is "rate of return"?
Students learned how to manage risk by choosing lower risk investments, time, and diversification.
